The 4th Japan-Switzerland Workshop on Biomechanics (JSB2014) will be held at “Shima Kanko Hotel The Classic” in the city of Shima, Mie Prefecture, Japan. It is located in a middle part of Japan about 50 km southeast from Tsu, the capital of Mie prefecture. The hotel is connected from the Nagoya station in about 2.3 hours and from Chubu Airport in about 3 hours. Please visit the Access website for details.
Shima is located on Ise Bay on the Pacific Ocean and offers magnificent view of beautiful rias coastline, islands, and blue sea. Its fishing industry is well developed and this city is famous for its delicious seafoods such as spring lobster (Ise-ebi in Japanese), abalone (awabi), and oyster (kaki). There are also lots of tourist spots around Shima. The most prestigious Shinto (the indigenous spirituality of Japan and the people of Japan) shrine, Ise Jingu, is located in the city of Ise, a city next to Shima. The shrine is dedicated to goddess Amaterasu-oomikami, the ancestral goddess of the Japanese Imperial Family dates back to the B.C. period. In front of Ise Jingu is Okage Yokocho (Indebted Street), a small shopping district which embodies a nostalgic town of the Edo and Meiji Periods (17-19th centuries). Mikimoto Pearl Island, where the first cultured pearl was created, is in Toba, a city located 20 km north of Shima. The city of Matsusaka located 40 km northwest of Shima is famous for the top-quality beef in Japan, Matsusaka Beef. It is one of the most famous beef types within Japan and internationally, with its extremely fine marbling and soft taste.
